Hospital indemnity: cash for every day admitted.
A fixed cash benefit paid directly to you for each day you spend in the hospital. Use it for your deductible, your bills, or your family's expenses while you are out of commission.
At a glance
- Daily cash benefit for each day admitted, paid to you, not the hospital.
- Higher benefit for ICU days on most plans.
- No network restrictions: any hospital counts.
- Guaranteed renewable as long as premiums are paid.
How the benefit works
Plans commonly pay a fixed daily benefit in the hundreds of dollars for each day you are admitted, with intensive care days paying more.
Many plans also pay fixed benefits for outpatient surgery and emergency room visits, so a rough day that does not end in admission can still trigger a payment.
The money comes to you. Most clients point it straight at their health plan's deductible, which is exactly the bill a hospital stay creates first.
Injury-related stays are typically covered from day one of the policy.
The deductible arrives before you're home
A hospital stay triggers your health plan's deductible and out-of-pocket maximum all at once, right when you may also be missing work. The health plan pays the hospital; nobody pays you.
Hospital indemnity flips that. Each admitted day generates cash, and a few days of benefits often covers the entire deductible that stay just created. It is the second most-added layer in our book for exactly that reason.
We match the daily benefit to your actual deductible, so one stay roughly cancels itself out. An advisor shows you the real premium before you decide.
Built to pair with your health plan
Hospital indemnity exists to absorb the exact bill your health plan sends you after a stay:
Quick answers
What would I actually use this for?
Most clients use it to cover the health plan deductible a hospital stay triggers, then everyday bills: rent or mortgage, groceries, childcare, missed income. There are no restrictions.
Does it matter which hospital I go to?
No. There are no network rules. Any covered hospital admission pays the benefit.
Is this the same as health insurance?
No, and it does not replace it. Your health plan pays the medical system. Hospital indemnity pays you a fixed cash amount per day admitted, on top of whatever your health plan does.
When can I enroll?
Almost any time. Hospital indemnity plans are not limited to open enrollment.
